On September 10th, 2015, Sean Reinert announced that Cynic broke up once again due to artistic and personal differences. Later that day, however, Paul Masvidal denied these claims, stating that Cynic will continue "one way or another". A week later, Cynic announced a new incarnation (featuring Paul Masvidal, Sean Malone and Matt Lynch), a lineup that made its live debut on October 3rd, 2015 at the Euroblast festival in Cologne, Germany.
Also, on September 11th, 2015, Reinert stated that Cynic was ultimately a 50-50 partnership between he and Masvidal. Reinert eventually came to an agreement with Masvidal on December 9th, 2017, which allowed the latter to continue with the band unabated.
