Рим – осажденный город. Город в огне. Зрителю со стороны невозможно отличить воюющие стороны друг от друга, но очевидно, что смятение охватило весь континент. На ’Le Ceneri Di Heliodoro’ (’Прах Гелиодора’, греческого писателя III-IV веков) лидер ROME Жером Рютер не боится быть провокационным и двусмысленным и таким образом выходит на новые территории и затрагивает новые темы, такие как распадающееся единство Европы, ее отношения с США и хрупкое братство ее наций. Вопросы преемственности и самоидентификации в последние десять лет находятся среди первых пунктов общественной повестки, и их влияние на работы Ройтера неоспоримо. Но кто получится из этого таинственного Гелиодора – пророк или демон, спаситель или убийца? Ройтер оставляет эти вопросы – как и большинство других – без ответа на данном празднике неофолка. На своем 13-м альбоме ROME возвращаются к своим мартиал-фолковым корням, и с помощью этих щемящих фолк-песен Ройтер рисует весьма унылую картину. Нам оставили лишь один выбор: попытаться найти нужные силы внутри себя, если мы хотим пережить эти потрясения. Таким образом, этот альбом является еще и манифестом присущего ROME аутсайдерства, не имеющего аналогов.

после всех экспериментов вновь, очень приятно слышать прежний Рим. гитарные пассажи, запоминающиеся мелодии. Достойно. что касаемо самого названия альбома, то речь идёт о прахе некоего древнегреческого писателя, Гелиодора. др.-греч. Ἡλιόδωρος автор одного из пяти канонических греческих романов Эфиопика. всё это было очень, очень давно.

"The West Knows Best" is the third single from the upcoming album "Le Ceneri Di Heliodoro" (The Ashes of Heliodoro) on which witty social commentary is coupled with neofolk's finest brand of sarcasm. Screw the Rest, The West Knows Best - Reuter sings of the fall of the West and one can only wonder at the tongue-in-cheek sentiments portrayed in this inadvertent sing-along of the reluctant capitalist and its unapologetic portrayal of today's plague-ridden relations between the formerly new West and the Old Heart of Europe. All hail the stumbling the child, coiling for the vanishing light. The B-side is a gripping and freshly recorded live-version of one of ROME's absolute classics: "One Fire", a song originally issued as part of ROME's seminal "A Passage to Rhodesia" back in 2014. This anthem which constitutes an inherent part of each and every live show was recorded at Heliopolis Studios in Reuter's adopted home of Eumesville.

"“Käferzeit” - the time of beetles, is the first instalment in a series of releases featuring exclusively martial ambient material and "industrial" collages, partially reminiscent of earlier ROME works such as “Hate Us and See if We Mind” (2013), “A Passage to Rhodesia” (2014) or parts of the “Die Aesthetik der Herrschaftsfreiheit” trilogy (2011). Whereas ROME's oeuvre usually features lots of guitar work, “Käferzeit” focuses on complex industrial loops, unconventional bruitist arrangements and instrumental ambient collages.
The images evoked by these martial soundscapes (mostly made of restored period audio material and found sounds) transport us back to Europe's blood-drenched past, when ideologies were still battling each other to the death on European soil. Images of armoured creatures digging foxholes in a landscape ravaged by war; of the futility of defending trenches against murderous incursions, as shells tear bodies apart, souls apart."
